The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is a volunteer component of the Texas Military Forces. The State Guard provides support to the components of the Texas National Guard, city and county governments, and also participates in search and rescue (SAR), disaster relief, security and other functions as directed by the Governor.

The Texas State Guard is a volunteer organization, and prior military service is not a requirement for membership. TXSG is a component of the Texas Military Forces, and members are subject to military rules and regulations while at drill and on active duty.

TXSG members provide their own uniforms and equipment, and are not paid for normal drill and training activities. When called to State Active Duty (SAD), TXSG members are paid per diem (currently $121/day), mileage and authorized expenses. Some training activities are also eligible for SAD.
